Song about a dream/vision and the Trail of Bitter Tears. It has a sort of haunting quality to it. Original title was "It didn't take too long {for the Cherokee to pass away}" but I shortened it to Cherokee Song to make it more workable.
Sometimes late at Night
I Cry myself to sleep
Never knowing what to keep
In My heart
It doesn't take too long
for it all to go away
and return another day
in a song
Sometimes when I sleep
I moan myself awake
from Dreams I cannot shake
Though I try
It doesn't take too long
for the dreams to go away
and return another day
in a sigh
A long time ago,
The people passed this way
I hear their footsteps in the grass
I see them turn their heads to say
It didn't take too long
for us all to pass away
Now we return another day
in a dream
Sometimes when I dream
I hear drum beats & a song
I cannot tell if I'm asleep
I cannot tell what is wrong
But it doesn't take too long
for it all to pass away
and return another day
in a song
Sometimes late at night
I cry myself to sleep
from dreams I cannot keep
from my heart
It doesn't take too long
for it all to pass away
and return another day . . . . .
