If you are looking for a unique Native American Flute that will be very playable, I'd try Painted Spirit Flutes. I just purchased a Maple Bass, and it plays very well. I don't often give testimonials, but I gave Donnie Martinez (the flute craftsman) a testimonial in this case.

I had such an enjoyable evening talking and playing the Native American flutes at the Three Rivers Institute of Afrikan Art & Culture. My good friend Wil Brown of local fame as a much-sought-after percussionist really brought the house down playing 6 congas at the same time, and very well I might add. Wil Brown is known for sitting in with the Todd Harrold Band, and for his own duo, the Afrodisiacs. Truly one of the more enjoyable evenings I have had in a while.

I am in the process of writing songs again, and will be working towards a recording project in the next year. If all goes according to plan this CD will be a departure from the previous CD released in 2007, "Dark Hearts".

Cathy Serrano and her partner, Michael Patterson, played at the Barr Street Market Saturday, August 15th, and true to her usual repertoire of eclectic mix, they featured one entire set of 60's music, as well as interspersing the other three sets with selections from the Mamas and the Papas, Hermans' Hermits, Dylan, Joplin and more. According to Cathy, "It was pretty easy since I routinely cover 60's music in my solo act. In fact, Michael and I did a salute to 60's and Woodstock at this year's Sol Fest, so we just revisited that one more time."

This market is great! Lots of really interesting vendors, great food, music, what more could you want? Every Friday 3 pm - 8 pm.

The music was great, the weather was awesome, the food, the crowd, the Mad Anthony's Beer Garden, the hayride, the kid's area, it was just a wonderful time.

My partner Michael Patterson and I thoroughly enjoyed our "hippie" 60's routine, and all the other musicians we were lucky enough to be able to hear!

Well this is one of those things that happen sometimes on the local scene. This was the venue's idea, and they gave it all of three weeks before they decided they did not want to go forward. So no more open mic. We're looking at doing something somewhere else, but nothing is settled yet. We had some really good players out ! So stay tuned !!!
